How we check
Everything on this site is a fact you can verify yourself. Here is exactly where each one comes from.
The ratings and review counts
Google Places, captured on the date shown on each page. We do not adjust, weight or filter them. We do not host reviews of our own and we do not accept payment to change a listing.
The website checks
We fetch the company’s home page once, on the date shown, and record structural facts: whether it responded, whether it carries review markup, whether it has structured data, a meta description and a mobile viewport, how many top-level headings it has, and the year in its copyright notice.
These are properties of the page, not opinions about the business. We deliberately do not rate, score or rank anyone on website quality — only on review volume, which is the public’s own count.
One finding is held to a stricter standard. Before a page says a company’s site never mentions the reviews it has earned, two independently written tests must agree: a check for review markup — the machine-readable rating summary defined at schema.org — and a separate scan of the visible text for the reputation stated in plain words. When we measured the markup test alone, it was wrong about 62 of 148 sites — review widgets and a plain “412 reviews” in the copy both show a reputation without any markup — so when only one of the two tests finds nothing, we publish nothing.
How the ranking works
Position on a trade page is Google review count, highest first, recalculated on each refresh. Nothing else moves it — not the state of the website, not a payment, not us. The way a company rises here is earning more public reviews on its Google Maps listing, and that is picked up automatically.
When a company’s own sources disagree
Each page also compares the two sources the company itself controls — its website and its Google listing. Where they conflict, for example a website title naming one part of the valley while the registered address sits in another, the page prints both facts side by side with no verdict attached. That comparison is the one thing here a reader could not quickly do themselves, and it is the reason these pages exist.
What we do not do
- We do not judge the work.A company’s reviews are the verdict on their service. Nothing about their HTML changes that, and we never imply otherwise.
- We do not check every page.One visit to the home page. A finding here is about that page on that date, nothing more.
- We do not list companies under 50 reviews.Below that the sample is too small to say anything useful.
Errors
Automated checks get things wrong. Sites change, go down for a minute, or block automated visitors. If anything here is inaccurate we will fix or remove it — see corrections.
Frequently asked questions
How often are the figures refreshed?
Every page is regenerated from a fresh capture on each refresh, and every figure is printed with the date it was read. The date on the page is the answer that matters: the numbers were Google's public numbers on that day, not live counters.
Why do you check only the home page?
One automated visit to one public page keeps every finding verifiable - you can load the same page and see the same thing we saw. A finding is a property of that page on that date, and it is printed with both.
Do you score companies on their websites?
No. We record properties a visitor would run into - whether the page responds, works on a phone, and mentions the reputation the company has earned. Ranking is Google review volume only; website findings never move a company up or down.
Can a company pay to change what is published here?
No. Nothing on this site is for sale - not listings, not rankings, not corrections, not removals. Corrections are free and removal on request is unconditional.
